I was on the street on a beautiful sunny Sunday afternoon on March 9 2015. I heard a loud unfriendly voice was accusing someone nearby in Chinese, which is my native language. I stopped and looked and saw an old Chinese lady was angry with someone who was standing not far away. I approached her slowly and asked whether she was angry with her daughter. She told me that the lady was her young sister. I persuaded her that she could be nice to her as her sister might be the only person who can speak English when they are in trouble. She told me that she was angry because her sister did not know which bus they should ride to the destination. She told me that she has been a widow since 2008. Due to the international women festival, they wanted to go some place to celebrate. I offered her to find the bus for them and she felt some kind of comfort and left with her sister. About an hour later, she came back alone. I asked her what happened. did their friends meet them? She told me yes and shared with me that there were beautiful white swans along the beach. I told her that they must be snow geese. She was very surprised. She was still in angry as her sister was way behind her. I spoke gently to her that she could be soft and kind to her only sister in this world now. Then she started to ask what I was doing there. I told her that I was preaching the gospel of kingdom of Heaven of G-d and Jesus Christ, Son of G-d. She told me that they went to see a production in Christmas time in Burnaby. I told her that must be our church as Willingdon church makes Christmas production every year for free. She became quite excited to know it. I told her further that although we have no Mandarin Pastor but we have simultaneous translations on Sunday services. She called her sister and told her that I was from the Church where they watched a Christmas show. I told her that they can visit us when they have time. Out of my expectation, she asked me for a tract in Chinese. Praise be to my Lord when I showed kindness to a strange of same kind, He moves her heart to cling to Him. what a Joy in my heart.
Rewinding her strong personality and accusing tones, my tender and gentle rebuke and warm and kind help changed her attitude just there. More than a bone of her pride and self-center being broken, but infused with kindness and gentleness from our Lord. Jesus said, "when you do what I taught you, the world see them and will praise your G-d in Heaven." May His words always be true in my life, and many other faithful followers' life.
Her sister thanked me for my talking with her elder sister as well. Possibly she felt some good change of her sister that afternoon as she experienced not before that period. Praise be to the Lord. I pray that they might find some time to come to our church or other Christian church to learn and know more about our Lord Jesus Christ.
yes, we do not foresee tomorrow. If we have faith and trust Him, He will continue to lead us on in safety and joy. May the Lord bless you as well when you choose to follow Him and cling to Him. Amen.
